Just Air Assist? Not this nozzle! The Shear GuardTM PLUS nozzle combines the very best of air assist, the air blast that drives the spray deep into the crop canopy, with the very best of an atomizing nozzle, creating the ideal, optimum droplet size range for each specific application. The Shear GuardTM PLUS Nozzle, however, does not have the limitation of an Air Assist application in that it creates it's own droplets as opposed to utilizing whatever droplet size range is produced by the more inefficient flat fan nozzles. Furthermore, the Shear GuardTM PLUS nozzle does not share the limitation of an atomizing nozzle that does not have forced air to drive the spray into the canopy.
The Shear GuardTM PLUS Nozzle is essentially a hybrid of both air assist and air atomizing technologies in one, powerful, versatile, efficient nozzle application system!

Trying to help you increase your on-farm efficiency....one sprayer at a time!
Today, the Field Sprayer is the last, great place to generate increased on-farm efficiencies.
Wide straight cut headers & technological advances in combine threshing systems has sped up harvesting speeds and ensures less of the harvested grains and oilseeds end up being thrown out the back as chaff. That’s dollars in your pocket. That’s real, quantifiable progress.
If you still swath, faster, wider self propelled swathers ensure more acres are swathed per day. Innovative? Certainly.
Seeding equipment, with advanced air drills and low disturbance opener technology, such as the double shoot, and mid-row banding, has single handedly led to soil moisture conservation, organic material build-up, and true one-pass seeding/fertilizing, eliminating costly pre-work and fertilzer banding applications. Seeding is done quickly, efficiently, and with tremendous fuel, fertilizer, and time saved. Farmers spend months researching how to make their seeding technology more efficient. It’s the smart thing to do, the right thing to do. That’s why everyone is doing it, right? Right.
And then, there is the sprayer. Today’s single greatest opportunity to create efficiencies.
After potentially months of negotiating and deliberations, a decision to purchase a sprayer is made based on such factors as tank size, boom width, engine horse power, ease of use, and sometimes even paint colour. But, when it comes to the nozzles, the very heart of any spraying application, where one of the single biggest input costs on the farm takes place, little to no research is done.
"Give me a set of 5 gallon tips, 10 gallon tips, and something to give me a little heavier rate". Not very scientific, is it? Nope. Expensive? Wasteful? Yes, but also an opportunity staring you in the face. Get Efficient. You don’t use a 28’ fixed hitch cultivator to seed with any longer...why continue to use 100 year old nozzle technology?
Time to Re-Think. Spend some time researching how 4,500 other farmers in North America are benefiting from the use of efficient spray applications done only with only ONE NOZZLE, Spray-Air’s Shear GuardTM PLUS Nozzle with Dial-A-DropTM Technology! Save Water. Save Herbicide. Save Time. Save Money. You can do more, with less!
Used to be a radical idea... today it’s just smart!
Now you can take command of two elements of nature, wind and water, harnessed to create the Spray-Air field sprayer, through its revolutionary Shear Guard™ PLUS nozzle. The Shear Guard™ PLUS nozzle performs in any field situation, providing reliable, even applications. With the Dial-A-Drop™ technology all in one nozzle it provides the unique flexibility of meeting your spraying needs in a variety of crop and field conditions. When you head to the field this season, Spray-Air is the only field sprayer that meets head-on the challenges of modern agriculture. No other applicator can match what Spray-Air delivers.
The Shear Guard™ PLUS nozzle has been built on the years of success of Spray-Air's air delivery nozzle technology. Spray-Air contracted the National Research Council of Canada to develop a new and more efficient spray nozzle; the Shear Guard™ PLUS is that nozzle

You'll get better coverage...here's proof!

In field testing, the white areas on the plant indicate where the dye covered the plant surface area. This image is courtesy of the NDSU Research Center – Langdon, ND. It was obtained during sprayer test trials July, 2003 using Spray Air Shear Guard PLUS Nozzle with Dial-A-Drop Technology! Now, just imagine that you are applying a contact product such as a fungicide to your crop. When coverage is absolutely critical to control, wouldn't you be better off spraying with a technology that ensures the greatest coverage, retention, and absorption of the active agents? When coverage is critical, there is absolutely no better method of application. Period. |
The Shear Guard™ PLUS nozzle, which atomizes the spray mixture, makes it different from all other sprayers. A pre-orifice is used to control the amount of flow to each nozzle. The air passes over and around a liquid delivery tube in each nozzle. The liquid is introduced in the center of the air flow. When the air and liquid meet, the liquid is atomized, resulting in better coverage with less carrier volume. Two cross flow shaping jets in the nozzle form the spray pattern. The air physically moves the plants and carries the spray droplets to the target. This provides more penetration and coverage than conventional spraying systems. The Shear Guard™ PLUS nozzle replicates the pattern of a hydraulic flat fan nozzle, with the added advantage of controlled variable droplet sizes and terminal velocities.
Droplet Management with the Shear Guard™ Plus Nozzle:
The tremendously increased coverage allows for a decrease in carrier volume. Instantly "Dial-In" the OPTIMUM Droplet Size Range on-the-fly, in the cab.

Dial-A-Drop™ Technology allows the applicator to choose the droplet size which will give the best performance, and still minimize drift. The operator can adjust the force of the air and control droplet size from the cab, regardless of ground speed.
The Shear Guard™ PLUS nozzle allows the operator to control droplet size from 100 to 500 microns. The operator decides the size of droplet needed to do the best job.
The Shear Guard™ Plus Nozzle with Dial-A-Drop™ Technology often improves the
overall efficacy or level of control over conventional nozzle application
technology. Farmers report as good and generally better levels of control
over conventional application methods in herbicide, insecticide, desiccant, and
fungicide applications, even with significantly reduced herbicide rates (25-50%
reductions) and the lowest water volumes for all
applications. Little to no chemical rate reductions are reported with
insecticide and fungicide applications, however, with the exception of recent
experiments with 1/2 rate, split timing applications of some fungicides.
For insecticide and fungicide applications, it is widely known that the Shear
Guard Plus application technology simply provides the best level of disease and
insect controls, with a wider application window and often prolonged periods of
control.

This DuPont/NDSU Field Trial below shows the Spray-Air Shear GuardTM
PLUS application produced the best results, the lowest incidence of white mold
in edible navy beans.

Even more important than having the lowest incidence of white mold infestation,
the Spray-Air application produced the Highest Yield, the Highest Return on
Investment!
| APPLICATION TYPE | YIELD LBS/Acre |
| Spray-Air Shear GuardTM PLUS | 3,024 |
| High Pressure Band Sprayer | 2,873 |
| High Pressure Broadcast | 2,411 |
| Aerial | 1,893 |
| Untreated Test Strip | 1,860 |
It's easy to see where the return on investment is highest. Respectfully, the aircraft may as well have stayed on the ground, considering the 33 LB/Acre increase in yield generated that would not have come close to covering the cost of the application in this trial.
The use of the Spray-Air field sprayer and the Shear Guard™ Plus Nozzle with Dial-A-Drop™ Technology simply provides the best plant coverage, the maximum penetration into the crop, and the ideal droplet size control for every application type while allowing significant reductions in chemical rates and water volumes.
Ultimately, the net result are more acres covered per day, improved pest control, improved yield and quality of crop, reduced application cost, and superior return on investment. Why buy any other sprayer technology?
